Hulk says he has seen alot of great champions, and they had problems in the company but he took the belt and now everyone is after him. Hulk tears up the list and he says Roode might be great, but next week is Open Fight Night and the tag team titles were already defended last month. He says Roode is defending his next week, and he took a poll of people who want a title shot and he calls them all out to the stage. Most of the locker room comes out to the stage and Hulk says they all stepped up for a shot, but he needs to narrow things down to four men. Hulk announces four elimination matches, and he makes the first three featuring RVD/Bully Ray, Jeff Hardy/Ken Anderson, and Kurt Angle/Samoa Joe. Hulk says the final match is going to be a battle royal between everyone else, and he says that’s the way it goes so Roode can celebrate but he better fight first.

Open Fight Night Qualifier
Ken Anderson vs Jeff Hardy

Hardy and Anderson shake hands and lock up in the corner, then Hardy rams his shoulder in Anderson’s ribs and drops him with an atomic drop. He goes for a mule kick on the floor, but Anderson catches his leg and snaps his head on the apron, then he rolls back in and puts Hardy in a headlock. Hardy gets to his feet so Anderson whips him into the corner, then he hits a clothesline for a two count and tries to pull Hardy back up. Hardy throws his shoulder into Anderson and hits a springboard elbow for two, then Anderson comes back with a swinging neckbreaker for another near fall.

Anderson tries to hit a crescent kick but Hardy sweeps his legs, then they get up and trade punches before Hardy hits a back body drop. Hardy whips him chest first into the corner and follows with a side Russian leg sweep, then jumps to the top rope and hits Whisper In The Wind for a two count. He calls for a Twist of Fate but Anderson counters and hits a rolling fireman’s carry slam, but Hardy rolls through and holds on to make the cover.

Winner – Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Anderson

Series of hip toss and arm drag counters between Jeff Hardy and Mr. Anderson early on. Hardy with a quick tilt-a-whirl head scissors takedown on Anderson sending him through the ropes to the outside. Hardy jumps off the steel ring steps and bumps into the steel barricade when Anderson moves. Anderson with a big kick to the shoulder of Hardy. Hardy responds with a jawbreaker and russian leg sweep. Anderson kicks Hardy away when he attempted his corner dropkick. Anderson with an armbar drop working over the left arm of Hardy. Hardy with a Mic Check on Anderson. Anderson comes back with a Twist of Fate on Hardy. Hardy blocks a Swanton Bomb attempt from Anderson getting his knees up. Hardy then connects with the Swanton Bomb and Anderson kicks out. Hardy goes for his jumping low blow, but Anderson counters and covers Hardy to get the pinfall. It was close as Anderson looked completely confused at the end.

Winner: Mr. Anderson

After the match, a confused Mr. Anderson continues to talk with referee Earl Hebner. Jeff Hardy also starts to argue with Hebner. Hardy and Anderson eventually shake hands. They show highlights of the finish and Hardy was clearly shown kicking out.

Here are some notes from the interview. For more go to Slam Sports Wrestling.

On his match with Jeff Hardy:

Quote
“I think every encounter I have with Jeff is significant, I’m dealing with a guy who is, in my opinion, a living legend and is probably one of the youngest living legends we have in our business. He’s somebody I completely looked up to when I was coming up through the ranks and I still do. We’re all still fans of the wrestling business, we’re the biggest fans out there. I’m a fan of Jeff Hardy. We’re very competitive. We like each other, so that’s always a challenge to wrestle each other when you’re getting along, but I always enjoy getting in the ring with Jeff.”

On changing back and forth from heel to face:

Quote
“There are things I wish could’ve been done a little bit differently, I probably wouldn’t have chosen to make the switch so many times. I think last year I turned four or five times, maybe. It was a little hard for me to wrap my head around, but things have changed.”

On wether he has any regrets from his TNA run:

Quote
“It’s the wrestling business, you never know what to expect, you never expect anything and I came to learn that pretty early on in my career. They say believe half of what you see and none of what you hear in the wrestling business and I think that’s pretty true. I’ve been pretty happy with the way things have gone in TNA. There’s always room for improvement and I always look back at every single match and I don’t recall a single one in the history of my career where I’ve sat back and said, ‘That match was great, I love that match.’ There’s always something I’m critical of and I think you’ll find that with most actors, athletes and most people who are just competitive in nature.”

On his involvement with creative:

Quote
“…I don’t take part in any of the creative, I don’t want to be a part of that. I don’t want to be one of those guys that sits in on the meetings and then books himself to do certain things. I try to just do what I’m told to the best of my ability. I’m a performer. I take what they give me and try to make the most out of it. I can always be better.”

On improving:

Quote
“I just try to go out there and give them the best show possible and the best performance, hopefully they see, through my work and my work ethic, that I’m somebody they can put their faith in and put the company behind.”

He is somebody I completely looked up to, when I was coming up through the ranks of the independent scene, and I still do. Ultimately, we’re all still fans of the wrestling business. We’re the biggest fans out there, and I’m a fan of Jeff Hardy. We’re very competitive. We like each other, so that’s always a challenge to wrestle each other, when you’re getting along with each other, but I always enjoy getting in the ring with Jeff.”

On Concussions in wrestling:
“All of us are trying to work smarter, safer. My concussions have been complete accidents. I don’t think I’ve lived the crazy lifestyle as far as my in-ring style goes. I’ve kind of always tried to keep it safe and simple but be as effective as possible.”

On doing dangerous moves in the ring:
“Early in my career, I sent a tape into WWE, and Kevin Kelly responded, [On the tape] I had done a dive from the top rope to the floor, and the guy completely missed me, and I ended up hurting myself a little bit. “Kevin asked me, ‘Do you want some advice?’ I said, ‘Of course I do,’ and he said, ‘If you want to continue a career, if you want to have a lengthy career, stop doing crap like that.’ Point taken right away.”

On having more creative freedom in TNA:
“When I got to TNA, I had a little bit more freedom creatively on the microphone. They would give me a promo with some bullet points, and if I didn’t necessarily feel what was on the paper, I was pretty free to change it up.”

“I went out there one night, and I hit that line. Interestingly enough [former TNA creative] Vince Russo then wrote for me the next week the line about Jeff Hardy has his fans who he calls the Creatures of the Night. Well, I’ve got my own fans, and I call them Anderson’s @$$—–, and right at that moment the entire crowd started chanting, ‘We are @$$—–.’ “It was a vision, an idea that I had in my head for seven years, and it hit, and it stuck, and it worked. So I was very happy.”

Mr. Anderson donated his brain to the Sports Legacy Institute, co-founded in 2007 by former WWE superstar Christopher Nowinski and Dr. Robert Cantu in reaction to new medical research indicating brain trauma in sports is a public health crisis.
